If you are already homeless or we cannot help you to
keep your home we will begin a homeless investigation.
During a homeless investigation we will consider whether you are
local to North Somerset.
We will only accept a duty to house you, with some
exceptions, if you have a local connection with this area.
You will be considered to have a local connection following
apply to your individual circumstances:
- You have lived here for six out of the last 12 months or three
out of the last five years
- You have permanent work in the area
- Either your mum, dad, brother or sister have lived here for the
past five years
- Your local connection is with another district but you are not
safe to return to the whole of that area
- You have no local connection anywhere
If you have no local connection and a homeless duty is accepted
we will refer you to another area where you have a connection
- if it is safe for you to go there.
Time spent in dry houses, rehabs or any other treatment centres
to which you were referred by another authority do not count
towards a local connection with North Somerset.
Qualifying accommodation must be settled and of your own
choosing.
