If you are already homeless or we cannot help you keep
your home we will begin a homeless investigation.
Whether you qualify for housing as a homeless person will depend
on your individual circumstances.
The Housing Act
1996 Part VII and other legislation sets out our legal duties
towards people who are homeless or about to be made homeless.
However, we do not have to provide accommodation to all
homeless people.
During a homeless investigation we will consider whether you
fulfil the following criteria in the following order:
If we are satisfied you fulfil the first three criteria we may
offer you temporary accommodation while we make our final decision
or wait for a permanent home to become available.
Bed and breakfast, or B&B, accommodation may be used in
emergencies for single homeless people thought to be in priority
need but will not be used for families.
Temporary hostel accommodation within housing association stock
will normally be used for families in an emergency.
