Renewable energy

Using renewable energy to heat and light your home has many advantages over the non-renewable sources of power most of us currently use.

Created from natural sources like the sun, wind and the earth beneath our feet renewable energy will not run out unlike coal, gas and oil which will one day.

Solar, wind and geothermic power are also clean by comparison as they do not leak harmful emissions and pollutants into our environment and do not contribute to global warming and climate change.

Information about generating your own electricity and how solar electricity panels can work in your home is available on the Energy Saving Trust website.

Overall, there are not many negatives attached to using renewable energy but which ones you can and can't use are very much dependent upon where and how you live.

We are in the process of updating our web pages to reflect the current information available on the different renewable energy technologies, which will include: Air Source/ground source heat pump, solar hot water, solar photovoltaic and wind turbines.

If you would like general information regarding the above technologies please contact our Home Energy Efficiency Officer.
