Bringing empty properties back into use could provide
much needed housing opportunities within North Somerset, as well as
financial benefit for the owner.
We are part of the West of England Empty Property group
with Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol City and South
Gloucestershire councils. We work together to tackle the
problem of empty homes throughout the region.
Empty properties are a wasted resource, impact on the community,
and can lead to problems of anti-social behaviour, vandalism,
rubbish dumping, unauthorised access, arson and vermin.
We work in partnership with the owners of empty properties to
bring them back into use, providing advice and support on a number
of options available, including:
- Selling the property on the open market
- Selling or leasing the property to a Housing Association
- Letting the property themselves, or through a commercial or
lettings agent
- Change of use.
We can also provide information on any financial assistance
packages/ incentives that may be available.
As a last resort, if all attempts to encourage owners to bring
their empty properties back into use voluntarily fail, there are
certain legal remedies available to us.
