Housing associations

Housing associations (HAs) within North Somerset provide affordable homes to people in housing need.

In February 2006 we transferred our housing stock to Alliance Homes (formerly NSHousing), following a large scale voluntary transfer (LSVT).

Also known as registered social landlords (RSLs), HAs are non-profit making organisations who work in partnership with us to provide affordable housing.

They provide homes for people who we nominate for housing through our Housing Needs Register or those from their own waiting lists.

They develop a wide range of accommodation with some specialising in supported housing while others provide homes for older people or families usually for rent or shared ownership.

They do this by putting forward proposals for identified development sites and responding to requests for certain types of housing in particular areas.

However, we decide which projects will fulfil the identified housing need.

HAs fund their projects using their own funds or via the Homes and Communities Agency's   National Affordable Housing Programme

Any proposal must be supported by our Strategic Housing Service and meet our North Somerset Housing Strategy and Regional Housing Strategy objectives.

A list of HAs are available from the HomeChoice website.
