We provide help and advice for private tenants and
landlords across North Somerset.
This includes information on deposits, rents and access rights
and we investigate allegations of harassment and illegal
eviction.
Harassment is a criminal offence and occurs when a landlord or
agent interferes with the peace and comfort of a tenant or
occupier.
Illegal eviction is another criminal
offence where a landlord or agent illegally deprives, or
attempts to deprive, a tenant or occupier outside
the correct legal procedures.
If found guilty they can receive a maximum £5000 fine or
two-year prison sentence.
We can also mediate between landlords and tenants to try
and help resolve certain disputes.
For further information please call us on 01934 426330 or visit
us at our Housing Reception at Somerset House. The reception is open
daily from 8.45am to 3.00pm (please note that for a temporary
period only housing advice closes at 12noon on Tuesdays and
Thursdays).
If you have a problem outside normal office hours please contact
the Shelter freephone 24-hour
national helpline on 0808 800 444.
Alternatively, if you have been illegally evicted you can also
contact the police.
