Older people's housing services

We provide a range of services to help older people in North Somerset live independently.

These services range from providing advice to older people, to the provision of specialised housing.

Adaptations
To enable you to continue living as independently as possible in your own home, we may be able to help you with home adaptations.  These can range from shower facilities and stair lifts to access ramps.

Home energy help
Making your home more energy efficient can help keep you warm in the winter, cool in the summer and save you money at the same time. We can provide advice on energy efficiency, and there are a number of grants and discounts available to help keep homes warm and save energy.

North Somerset Care and Repair
The North Somerset Care and Repair scheme specialises in helping homeowners and private tenants aged over 60 to remain safe, secure, comfortable and independent in their homes.

Housing advice
We offer housing advice and support to residents in North Somerset. The service covers a broad range of issues for homeowners, tenants and landlords.

Housing for older people
There are a number of schemes across North Somerset offering housing for older people. These can be sheltered schemes, where residents live independently in homes of their own, choosing the level of support they require, or extra care schemes, where the level of support is greater. This housing is available for people who are 60 and over and is available to buy or to rent, through the Housing Register.

Telecare
Telecare is the term used to describe a range of discreet devices and wireless sensors that can assist in preventing or recognising events that might put you at risk. They can be installed in your home if you are not able to do the daily activities you want to, without the chance of hurting yourself or worrying your carers.

Access to affordable housing
We hold the Housing Register for North Somerset and operate a HomeChoice scheme, which allows you a greater amount of choice and control over where you live.

Supporting People
We provide a range of supported housing or housing related support services to vulnerable people in North Somerset. They can help you to manage day-to-day activities associated with maintaining independent living, to improve confidence and social skill and help to access benefits and other appropriate services. The focus is on enabling you to do things for yourself.

For more general information in relation to housing issues affecting older people, Age Concern has produced a range of information guides, which are available to download.
