Tens of thousands of pounds has been awarded to us
following a successful bid.
As part of a response to the government's 'Cold Weather Plan for
England' published last November, we have been successful
in obtaining over £55,000 of funding from the Department of Health
through the 'Warm Homes Healthy People Fund'.
This money will be used to target specific groups who are most
affected by severe weather.
We will be working with a number of partners including Age UK
Somerset; NHS North Somerset; Voluntary Action North Somerset;
North Somerset Care & Repair; and the Centre for Sustainable
Energy to help keep residents safe and warm through the winter.
The project aims to bring together partner agencies involved
with delivering Affordable Warmth for residents to provide a
comprehensive range of advice and support. Projects are being
developed to increase the resources available for individuals and
voluntary sector groups to help keep warm and provide specialist
support.
Training and advice will be provided to over 400 individuals and
groups - in particular targeted at older people and families
with young children.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, deputy leader and executive member for
housing said that enhancing the health and well-being of residents
is a core aim of the council's corporate plan and increasing the
thermal comfort of homes is an important part of that.
"Too many households in North Somerset still struggle to
adequately heat their homes and maintain a healthy affordable
indoor temperature. Joint partnership working between public,
private and voluntary sector is essential to improve the lives of
those affected by fuel poverty and the poor energy efficiency of
homes. This funding will help us to play our part in that
work."
