Local people are being offered the chance to buy a share
in a brand new low cost home as part of a major development in
Portishead.
One and two bedroom apartments are now available at Merchant
Quay, Portishead under a shared ownership scheme.
Shared ownership is a Government initiative that offers people
the opportunity to own their own home. People can purchase an
initial share in a new home and pay a discounted rent on the rest.
Then as their finances allow, further shares in the property can be
bought.
North Somerset Council negotiated the 12 affordable units at
Merchant Quay as part of its commitment to providing low cost
housing in the district.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, executive member with responsibility for
housing said the council worked extremely hard to ensure that every
new development offered some affordable housing for local
people.
"This is a great opportunity for residents to buy a share in a
brand new apartment. We would encourage people to come along to the
open day and take a look at what is on offer."
To showcase the apartments, an open event will be held at the
development on Saturday, 28 January from 10.30am – 2.30pm. Merchant
Quay can be found on Newfoundland Way, Portishead.
The shared ownership scheme is being run by Sovereign Housing
