Another successful Safe and Warm event was organised
last month by the North Somerset Affordable Warmth
Partnership.
The event, for those living in Blagdon and surrounding villages,
was hosted by Avon Fire and Rescue at their station in Blagdon on
Wednesday October 27.
The sun shone as residents came to find out about some of the
services local agencies and North Somerset Council have on offer,
including how to reduce fuel bills and carbon emissions, travel
sustainably, be safe, secure and warm at home and claiming
allowances.
Electric blanket testing was also on offer and Avon Fire and
Rescue tested 41 blankets of which 11 failed, North Somerset
Trading Standards replaced the 11 failed blankets with new ones and
offered general consumer advice.
Ten home fire safety visits were requested by people at the
event - these visits include home fire safety advice from
fire fighters and the fitting of free smoke alarms with ten-year
batteries.
More than 40 adults and children attended and free tea, coffee
and biscuits was provided by Age UK Somerset.
For further information about the services on offer and future
