We are asking property owners with empty homes to get in
touch as help may be available to find new occupiers and to bring
vacant properties back into use.
The move is prompted by concerns over the anti social problems
created by some homes left empty for six months or more. Vandalism,
vermin and rubbish dumping can be the result in some cases.
Empty properties are also a wasted resource to the local
community and the property owner.
As a result we want to work with property owners to
bring such homes back into use and are able to provide advice and
assistance on a number of options, as well as ensuring any health
and safety issues are resolved.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, executive member with responsibility for
housing said it was important that empty properties were brought
back into use.
"Properties can remain empty for a number of reasons and the
council realises that in some cases, vacant homes are unavoidable
.
"However, to help meet the housing demand we want to identify
homes that seem to be left empty for long periods and are
deteriorating as a result. Not only are they often an eye sore but
they are a wasted housing resource and properly used, could reduce
the need to build more new houses on greenfield sites.
"For those reasons we are keen to hear from anyone, including
parish councils and neighbours, who are aware of long term vacant
properties so they can be brought back into use."
