We own and manage 160 hectares of woodland spread throughout
the district.
These woodlands are managed for three main reasons:
- To benefit wildlife by providing a valuable resource for
biodiversity
- To offer recreational, access and educational
opportunities
- To enhance the landscape.
Our woodland management has been recognised as sustainable and
of good quality through the award
of the Forestry Stewardship Council
certificate.
We have also been awarded
a Green Flag for Abbots
Pool, Abbots Leigh
and Local
Nature Reserve status for Weston Woods, Weston-super-Mare and
Eastwood, Portishead.
We use management plans to assist in the maintenance of our
diverse woodland estate. These plans are site specific and designed
to guide the future management over a five year period. Benefits of
this process include systematic management, involvement of the
local community, protection of the site and enhanced opportunities
for grant applications.
