The conservation of our man-made and natural environment
plays an important part in planning within North Somerset.
We have 35 Conservation
Areas and around 1250 Listed
Buildings across the district protected under planning
guidelines to preserve their special architectural and
historical features.
In both cases this protection extends to their internal and
external features and, in some cases, their surroundings.
This does not mean you cannot alter these buildings or places but
you will need to carry out any changes sympathetically to
preserve their conservation features.
In these cases you have to apply for consent from us before
carrying out any work.
Historic
environment records are now available via our online mapping
system.
