If you break the planning rules you could face a
fine of up to £20,000.
We can take action if you carry out a development without our
permission or fail to comply with any planning conditions we have
set.
It is not an offence to carry out a development without obtaining
planning permission but we will take action if absolutely
necessary.
If you wish to report an alleged breach of planning regulations
fill in our
online Enforcement and
compliance form or download our
Enforcement and compliance form and send it to us.
Before taking action we will first assess whether a breach of
planning control has actually taken place.
If a breach has taken place we will only take action if it
detrimentally affects public amenity in accordance with our
Planning Enforcement Policy.
If we decide a breach has occurred we may issue an Enforcement
Notice to remedy the breach or one of the following notices:
- Planning Contravention Notice - Issued when we require
information about developments on the land
- Breach of Condition Notice - Issued where there is a failure to
comply with a planning condition or limitations
There is no right of appeal against a Breach of Condition Notice
and failure to comply with either this or an Enforcement Notice can
incur substantial costs.
If you do receive such a notice you should seek immediate advice on
how to proceed.
To find Enforcement Notice details online enter an application
number, street name or postcode into our
Enforcement Notice Search.
