Do I need permission?

We can give you informal advice on whether you need planning permission, there is normally a charge for this service.

We have prepared an advice note to explain how you can find out if you need planning permission and how we can help you.

The Planning Portal have produced an interactive house  and technical guide which will explain what building works will require planning permission and which ones are permitted development.

For a fee we can give you written advice about whether you need planning permission. We have prepared a advice note called "How we can help you find out if you need planning permission" to explain this service.

The fee for this service from 1 Jan 2011 is £50 for schemes that relate to existing dwellings and £80 for all other proposals.

If your scheme relates to an existing dwelling just submit our Householder enquiry form and send it to us with a metric scale drawing of your plans and their position in relation to your property.

Permitted development rules can allow householders to carry out the following works within certain size and siting limits:

Although you may not need to make a planning application for many of the types of work listed here, you may still need separate approval under building regulations.

You are strongly advised to contact Development Management on 01275 888 811 about any specific proposals. Alternatively there is a lot of information about the planning system available on the Planning Portal website.
