Types of applications

As a planning authority we deal with all kinds of requests for planning permission across North Somerset.

This mainly covers traditional areas such as building a new home or adding an extension to a property.

These are covered by some associated permissions:

• Outline planning permission - some matters reserved
• Outline planning permission - all matters reserved
• Reserved matters

However, our power to grant consent also covers a wide range of other areas not normally associated with planning.

These can require specific kinds of permission which must be applied for alongside, or instead of, normal planning permission - depending on the specific circumstances of your proposals.

As a result, you may have to apply for the following additional consent if you wish to carry out any of the following works:

• Listed Buildings - you must apply for Listed Building consent to carry out any internal, external or nearby work which could affect the special value and character of these properties
• Conservation Areas - you must apply for Conservation Area consent if you wish to demolish anything within these designated areas this includes any work to trees
• Trees with preservation orders - You must apply for our consent if you wish to fell or prune a protected tree
• Trees in Conservation Areas - You must give us six weeks notice if you wish to fell or prune a tree in one of these areas
• Hazardous substances - You must apply for our consent if you wish to store or use such substances
