We have 35 Conservation Areas across North
Somerset which help protect the character and history of our towns
and villages.
They are all areas of special architectural or historic interest
and their character and appearance should be preserved or even
enhanced.
They cover both our man-made and natural surroundings and have
strict planning and development controls within them.
This protection is broader than that applied to
Listed
Buildings and recognises the quality of an environment in its
wider sense.
For further information about Conservation Areas visit the
English Heritage
website or contact our
Conservation
and Heritage team.
Development in Conservation Areas
Development within a Conservation Area is dealt with under the
normal planning process except where demolition is involved.
In this case you may need to apply for
Conservation Area consent in order to carry out your plans.
The boundaries of North Somerset's Conservation Areas are shown
on our Conservation Area maps.
For further information and advice about submitting an application
within a Conservation Area please contact our
Development
Control service. |
