A public art initiative will see colourful murals
brightening up a number of building site hoardings in North
Somerset over the next few months.
The "Access All Areas" project has been organised by our
equalities and diversity team and aims to promote positive images
of disabled people through murals on building site hoarding panels.
The theme of sport and leisure will be incorporated in the
designs.
All the work will be undertaken by volunteers and materials and
equipment paid for by sponsorship.
The first of these will be as part of the seafront enhancements
scheme in Weston-super-Mare. This will be carried out by second and
third year Weston College students studying a Foundation Degree in
Applied Art.
Six full and part-time students will be working on the mural,
which will be on hoardings by the project information kiosk on the
seafront.
Birse Coastal, who are the contractors working on the seafront
enhancements scheme, are sponsoring this particular project.
Work on the project begins today (Monday 21 July) and will take
a week to complete.
The second project will be on hoardings in front of the
Tropicana site and the third at the construction site for the new
Nailsea School.
Two other projects are in the pipeline and these will be
announced nearer the time. Once all the projects are completed it
is hoped to hold an open air exhibition of all the
work. |
