Buildings and structures that appear to be dangerous
should be reported to our Building Control team.
You must tell us exactly where the building or
structure is and the nature of the danger so we can act
effectively.
Structures usually become dangerous due to poor
maintenance, fire damage, storm damage or vehicle impact.
There are two ways in which we can act:
- we may serve notice on the owner of the building through
the Magistrates’ Court requiring the danger to be removed
- in an emergency, we may take action to remove the danger and
recover costs later.
We will discuss the dangerous structure with the owner in
the hope that the matter can be resolved quickly and without legal
action whenever possible.
For structures that pose an immediate danger and threaten
lives, telephone the emergency services - 999.
Otherwise contact
our Building Control
team. To report a dangerous structure out of normal office
hours telephone 01934 622 669.
