We have developed this strategy in order to reduce
the amount of waste we produce in North
Somerset.
The amount of refuse we produce each year has been rising as the
number of people and households across the district continues to
increase.
New laws and tougher Government and European recycling targets
also mean our waste costs will soar unless we change the way we
collect and treat our rubbish.
We therefore need to improve our waste services and this is what
the strategy aims to achieve.
It takes into account our need to reduce our refuse levels by
increasing the amount we recycle working within the current waste
legislation and to the official targets we have been set.
As a direct result of the strategy's implementation we have already
introduced our green garden waste collection service, upgraded and
improved our recycling sites and increased recycling levels across
the district.
