Low energy light bulbs - By switching to low energy bulbs
you can save energy. These bulbs are classified as hazardous waste.
Unsafe disposal of these items releases harmful phosphor dust and
toxic mercury vapour. Please take to the
recycling
centre and speak with a member of staff who will direct you to
the correct container.
Do not put in your refuse or in green box as it will not be
collected..
If you make a trip to the centre please make it as efficient as
possible by stopping off on the way to somewhere else, and by
taking as much material to be recycled as possible such as,
plastic, batteries and larger items.
How are they recycled?
The bulbs undergo a crushing and separating process to remove
plastics, glass and phosphorous powder, which contains a small
amount of mercury. The different components are then processed into
recyclable material and the mercury safely removed from the
phosphorous powder. |
