If you let your
dog foul in a public place in North Somerset and you fail to clean
it up, you could be prosecuted and fined £1000. If dogs foul on
private land, we can also take action with the permission of the
landowner.
Where practical, we have
put up signs in to tell people that dog control orders are enforced
in that area.
The maximum penalty for
ignoring the warnings is a £1000 fine but you may be given the
opportunity to pay a fixed penalty of £75 which you must pay in 14
days. This could be reduced to £50 if you pay it in 10 days.
Refusing to give a name or address to our officer is an offence
which you could be prosecuted for.
There are exemptions for
people who are registered blind or disabled who use trained
assistance dogs.
To avoid any risk of a
fine, please clean up after your dog and dispose of the waste in
one of the 240 dog waste bins we provide throughout the district or
take it home and place in your household refuse.
If you find dog mess, you
can report it to our
Streets and Open
Spaces team to clean up or for more information visit our
street
cleaning page.
If you witness dog fouling
on a regular basis, you can report it to our
dog warden who will
take appropriate action.
