We provide a green garden waste collection service from the kerbside of your property. 

 

How often is my green garden waste collected?

Green garden waste is collected fortnightly throughout the year, and monthly during December, January and February. Find out your collection dates online. Please leave your green bag on the edge of your property nearest the road by 7am on your day of collection.

How do you collect my green garden waste?

We collect your green garden waste from green bags. You must only use the branded North Somerset green bags that we supply or that you have bought from an approved retailer.

I've just moved in and don't have a bag, where can I get one?

If you're a new resident, you can request a green bag online.

Is there a limit to the number of green bags I can put out for collection?

No, there is no limit to the number of bags you can leave out for collection providing they are filled with the correct materials and each bag weighs no more than 20KG.

My bags haven't been returned or are damaged, can I have another one?

Yes, we will replace damaged bags for free. You can report that your green bag is missing or damaged online. You'll need to place the damaged bags outside your property for our crews to collect and you'll receive a replacement within 10 working days. We do ask you to provide something to keep the bags secure when we return them, like a stone or your recycling box.

What if my bag is lost or stolen?

We will replace lost or stolen bags free of charge once, you can request a replacement bag online. Crews will then deliver the replacement bag to your property within 10 working days.

My green garden waste hasn't been collected, will you come back for it?

If you think your bag should've been collected but it wasn't, your can report a missed collection online, with 48 hours of your collection being due. We will then come back and collect it.

Will I be told why my bag wasn't collected?

Crews leave a tag on any bag that couldn't be collected to explain why. For example, it contained the wrong materials or was too heavy. If a tag has been left on the bag you are expected to re-sort your material and put out your bag at your next collection.

I'm elderly or disabled and struggle to put my green bag out for collection, can I get help?

Yes, we can arrange for you to have an assisted collection.

How much do the bags hold?

The bags have a 120-litre capacity, measure 60cm x 45cm x 45cm and can be folded and easily stored when not in use.

Why can’t you take food waste and green garden waste together?

Green garden waste can be composted without any further treatment.  Food waste needs to be treated differently due to the 2005 Animal By-Products Regulations.

I have a lot of green garden waste, is there somewhere I can take it?

Yes, you can deposit green garden waste at any of our recycling centres.

What happens to my green garden waste once it has been collected?

All of your green waste is collected together and shredded at our waste transfer station in Weston-super-Mare.  It is then taken to a composting site at Wingmoor near Cheltenham where it is turned into a soil enhancer.
