Join Weapons of Sound as Boomfest goes for a new record of 750
people for the World’s Largest Junk Orchestra on Saturday 20th at
4.30pm!
Boomfest festival, 19th-21st August, Clarence Park,
Weston-super-Mare.
Boomfest is a FREE festival, offering a variety of professional
cultural and creative arts performances and workshops for all ages
through dance including parkour, street dance and free running,
live music, theatre, film, comedy, performance poetry, graffiti,
BMX-ing, skateboarding and art exhibitions.

New free digital teaching resources available!
For key stage 2,
DHL Envirosolutions has joined forces with
Waste Watch to create a
free, innovative and engaging new teaching resource about the
growing challenge of dealing with all our waste electrical and
electronic equipment.
The resource is designed to support key stage 2 Citizenship,
English, Science and Geography and the Eco Schools waste
minimisation theme.

For key stage 4 GCSE, Waste Watch has created 'One Planet
Packaging' - a series of resources exploring the nature of current
packaging and sustainable solutions for the future.
The scheme of learning offers a sequence of activities based on
action learning. It supports GCSEs in Design and Technology
including: Product Design, Resistant Materials Technology, and
Graphic Products.

June 2011 Top Tip
Register for the Eco-Schools Solar Programme to access
innovative learning opportunities and PV Solar Panels for free.
Your school could save up to 25 tonnes of carbon, reduce its energy
bills by around 13.5% and save up to £5000 on electricity costs
each year. Hurry as this opportunity is open to the first 100
eligible schools.

Have you registered for the School Waste Minimisation Awards
yet?
The School Waste Minimisation Awards aim to encourage excellence
in learning about and taking action to minimise waste in
schools.
The Awards provide an opportunity for schools to be recognised for
exemplary efforts which support our initiatives to improve
recycling and reduce waste to landfill.
The Awards are open to all schools in North Somerset and each
school can enter one or both categories. One
winning school per category will receive £200 to put towards
an eco-project of their choice.

Get involved with the Climate Week Challenge
Could a team from your school come up with a brilliant idea and
a great plan of action to help combat climate change?
The Climate Week Challenge is the biggest single activity of
Climate Week. It will involve tens of thousands of people in
schools, colleges and workplaces all over the country tackling the
same task.
The Climate Week Challenge is a high energy, time-pressured
training and educational experience that develops the skills of
teamwork, innovation, creativity, planning, presenting and
delivering results to a deadline. It also promotes environmental
awareness and increases knowledge of sustainability issues.
There are different age categories ranging from five year-olds
to adults. It is completely free to enter and registration closes

Danone Yogurt Brigade
Danone has launched a scheme that allows schools and charities
to receive 2p for every Danone yogurt pot that they
collect. The returned pots will be made into items such as
plant pots and rubbish bins. Pre-paid postage labels allow the pots
to be sent back free of charge to the school or charity.
