We are currently preparing an Area Action Plan for
Weston town centre and throughout the preparation of the plan we
want to know what you think should be changed and improved in the
town.
We have now
completed consultation on our
Preferred Options document and we have
produced a
Consultation Statement and
a Schedule of Comments for this
consultation, which details the consultation method, the
main issues raised, a list of the comments received and a
planning officer's response to each. In June 2010 the council
commissioned work to assess the viability of proposals in the
AAP- the
Weston Town Centre Viability and Deliverability
Report (pdf, Mar 11, 4MB). The next step is to
produce the final draft for consultation (Publication Draft).
This is expected to be towards the end of 2010.
The Issues and Options consultation on the
Weston Town Centre Area Action Plan (AAP)
was carried out in October 2007 and the
Consultation Statement and the
Schedule of Comments from the Issues and
Options consultation set out the main issues that were
raised.
The AAP sets out
our preferred approach to how sites should be developed and where
different activities should be located. It identifies 15 sites for
redevelopment of improvement including Birnbeck Island, Victoria
Square opposite the Grand Pier, Dolphin Square and a number of
sites around the railway station which have been subject to more
detailed
master planning work.
The plan will
provide a clear vision and planning policy framework for the town
to attract more investment into the town centre. This
is particularly in terms of large retail and leisure
developments, as well as new office developments
and housing.
This Area Action
Plan builds on a large amount of
background work already undertaken which looks at the
future of Weston.
