The South
West Regional
Spatial Strategy requires a new mixed-use urban extension to
the South West of Bristol, to provide 10,500 new homes by the year
2026.
We are working
with Bristol City Council
to assess the potential impact of this
proposal because the extension will cross the boundary
between North Somerset and Bristol.
The new community will be in the Ashton Vale area and work is
underway to decide how we can best shape it into a
distinctive, inviting and sustainable place to live. Local
Stakeholders, landowners and the local community are all involved
in the process and you can find out more about the work
that is underway and who is involved, through our
Planning Together Workshops page.
We are currently undertaking an assessment of the Green Belt
within the South West Bristol area.
A scoping report has been produced and
we would welcome your comments on this by Friday 31 July
2009.
Landowners (Ashton Park)
have been closely involved with the Planning Together Workshops,
but are also progressing their own propsals which you can see on
their website.
Bristol
City Football Club are planning to relocate to the Ashton
Vale area and their proposals can also be seen on
their website
The new community will be identified in the Core Strategy as a
strategic land allocation with greater detail developed via a
Supplementary Planning Document. You can find more
details in the
North Somerset Draft Local Development Scheme
2008.
