The new coalition Government have stated their
intentions to rapidly abolish the draft South
West Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) and
a commitment to protect the Green Belt.
This was confirmed by the
Secretary of State letter to Council
Leaders on 27th May 2010. It will be up to Local
Planning authorities to determine locally the quantity of
housing in their area, and further guidance is expected on
this.
The Council have opposed the urban extension
and the resulting change to the Green Belt, both objecting to
the emerging RSS and through its draft
Core Strategy.
