Sand Bay is a rural beach three miles to the north
of Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset.
Lying alongside the village of Kewstoke it forms part of the
Severn Estuary
Site of
Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The bay is popular with walkers, dog walkers and horse
riders with several car parks situated along its length
providing access to the beach.
There are no horse riding restrictions on the main part of
the beach but riding is forbidden on the dunes which act as a flood
defence and need to be protected from erosion.
Motor vehicles are also banned on the beach and dunes at all
times.
All plastic and litter is removed from the beach but
natural debris, such as driftwood and seaweed, are left alone as
they form an important food source for invertebrates.
In turn, these materials form an important food source for the
birds of birds of national and international importance which use
the site as vital over-wintering and migration stopover
point.
Sand Point at the north end of the bay and is owned by
the National Trust
with the headland offering excellent views and coastal
