Jubilee Park

Jubilee Park is a highly valued community park situated on the western edge of the Coronation estate in the South Ward area of Weston-super-Mare

The park was significantly refurbished in 2008 by the South Ward Neighbourhood Management Partnership (SWNMP), and a new skate plaza, dirt bike track and unique play equipment were installed, as well as the new stone pillars that mark the entrances. The whole park was designed by a Landscape Architect, with ideas from local residents, regular park visitors and SWNMP.

Following this redevelopment and the establishment of the Friends of Jubilee Park, the area has been the focus of numerous community activities and events. The friends group are always looking for new volunteers, so if you are interested in getting involved the please call Mary Morgan on 01934 426998. Just a few of the activities so far have included hedge planting, wildflower planting and organising ‘Neighbours Day’.

A five year management plan has been developed with the friends group and local residents and interested groups were invited to have their say about the plan. For more information visit our consultation page.

In 2010 the park was awarded a Green Flag Award, and was the first park in North Somerset to achieve this standard.

What to see and do

Jubilee Park can be used for a whole range of recreational activities including formal and informal children’s play, football, skateboarding, cycling, walking and dog walking.

The park forms a transition zone between urban areas and the distinctive rural landscape of the Somerset levels. Ancient waterways locally known as rhynes run through the park, and the footbridge that links the park to the college site is the remnant of a bailey bridge that was erected during World War II.

A damp grass meadow and appropriate tree planting like willow, black poplar and alder provide habitat for local wildlife e.g. toads, butterflies and birds.

The play equipment is suitable for children up to teenage. The skate plaza was designed in partnership with Concrete Community, a local skateboarding group, and the dirt jumps are used by BMX riders of all abilities.

The site is fully accessible apart from the steel bridge, which is too narrow for wheelchairs, and the gravel track on the far bank of the rhyne.
