A free event to celebrate Uphill Hill Local Nature
Reserve gaining the Green Flag Award takes place this
weekend.
It all happens this Sunday, 5 September, at Uphill Quarry from
noon until 3pm and includes a family treasure hunt and a
photomontage workshop. The workshop offers both adults and
children the opportunity to learn new skills with a professional
photographer using a variety of different lenses and techniques to
produce unique photographs of Uphill.
These photos will then be used to create a montage to be
displayed at the Victory Hall and all those taking part will
receive a free CD of the pictures. Come along and join in the
fun and don’t forget your picnic!

Uphill Hill was one of four locations in North Somerset to be
awarded a prestigious Green Flag this year, the others being
Watchhouse Hill in Pill, Abbots Pool in Abbots Leigh and Jubilee
Park in Weston-super-Mare.
Only green spaces that are free to enter and open to the public
are eligible to win an award through the scheme, which is run by
environmental charities Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.
Uphill Hill is a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special
Scientific Interest on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare. It is
situated on the edge of Uphill village overlooking the River Axe
estuary. The partly-ruined 11th century church of St Nicholas
crowns the hill.
It is popular for walking and dog walking and has a cycle trail
and disabled access trail. It was voted the South West's favourite
picnic spot in the Warburtons Picnic Awards 2009.
