Local land charges FAQs

What is a local land charges search?

A search of all the information contained on the local land charges register (LLCR) and the register of common land, towns and village greens. We maintain both of these registers.

Why is a local land charges search carried out?

The searches reveal any legal restrictions or outstanding charges that might be attached to the property or land such as enforcement notices or tree preservation orders (TPOs) as well as other information including traffic schemes and planning issues. If any restrictions do exist, the next owners will be bound by them.

Which searches are carried out?

There are various different types of local land charges searches and they reveal a wide range of information relating to the property including:

  • planning decisions
  • legal agreements
  • traffic and highways
  • housing developments
  • environmental health
  • public rights of way

There are several terms used for the different types of searches:

  • LLC1
  • Con 29
  • Con 29R
  • Con 29O
  • LLCR
