Everyone can do their bit to ensure a clean and pleasant
environment in North Somerset.
You can do this by using vehicles sensibly as they are the major
source of air pollutants in urban areas.
Before using your car ask yourself:
- Do I really need to make this journey?
- Could I use another form of transport such as a bus or a
train?
- Could I walk or use a bicycle?
If you still need to use your car, drive smoothly and
do not rev your engine unnecessarily as this will save
fuel and cuase less pollution.
You can also help by keeping your car maintained, making
sure the engine is tuned properly and the tyres are at the
correct pressure.
Within the home you can buy water based or low solvent paints,
varnishes, glues and wood preservers.
Avoid burning solid fuels. If you live in a smoke control area use
only authorised fuels.
Do not light bonfires when pollution levels in the area are high
and never burn plastic or rubber.
