Together with the Environment Agency we are responsible
for investigating fly tipping incidents in North
Somerset.
Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of waste and carries a maximum
fine of £50,000.
It is anti-social, damages the local environment
and wildlife and can pose a threat to public health. It
also affects legitimate businesses that pay to dispose of their
waste properly.
Fly tipping can include household bin bags
and construction waste, discarded fridges, mattresses,
household goods and other waste.
Fly tipped waste costs us more than £70,000 a year and we
try to recover this money from the perpetrators.
Please be aware that you are responsible for your waste and
could be guilty of an offence if you do not dispose of it to a
registered waste carrier. You can find out who is registered
on the
Environment Agency’s waste
directory.
We would also like to encourage you to help us catch anyone who
dumps illegal waste by:
-
reporting dumped waste to us
- giving us a description of events and of those responsible,
what has been dumped and where
- giving a description of the vehicles involved including
registration details and take a photograph, if possible, without
putting yourself at risk
