There are historic sites and buildings right across
North Somerset which form an integral part of the everyday
environment we experience and enjoy.
This built heritage not only enhances the character of our district
but plays a vital role in the sustainable regeneration of our local
economy and environment.
We have 35 conservation
areas across North Somerset which help protect the local
environment.
They have special architectural or historic
interest so their character and appearance should be preserved
or even enhanced.
This includes the 1250 listed
buildings in the district which have strict
planning and development controls
within them.
Our Conservation Officers have worked with
colleagues in Mendip District Council and Somerset
County Council to produce a newsletter for owners of
historic buildings:
Heritage Matters is sent out to
councillors,
town
and parish councils and all owners of Listed Buildings in North
Somerset twice a year.
