We are working to identify how we need to adapt to
climate change.
Even if we went carbon neutral today, we would still
experience a change in climate because of historic
greenhouse gas emissions, so we must plan for these
changes.
The latest climate change projections
(UKCP09) outline
the most likely impacts of climate change in the UK and reflect
scientists' best understanding of how the climate system operates
and how it might change in the future under different
greenhouse
gas emission scenarios.
The projections confirm that we are likely to experience:
- hotter/ drier summers
- warmer/wetter winters
- sea level rises
- more weather extremes
We have assessed our vulnerability to extreme weather by
identifying the impact of these weather events on
our services. We have produced a
Local Climate Impact Profile (LCLIP)
(pdf, Jul 10, 559KB) .
In partnership with the Environment Agency; North Somerset
Housing; NHS North Somerset; Weston College and North Somerset
Enterprise Agency we have identified priority areas for action
to improve resilience to extreme weather and climate change in
North Somerset. Detail of these can be found in the
Climate Change Adaptation Plan (pdf,
1MB).
