We hope that all dog owners consider other members
of the public and enjoy their pets responsibly.
There are many laws that affect dog owners that you may not be
aware of.
For example did you know that you are breaking the law if your dog
is not wearing a collar and name tag with your name and address on
it in public?
It is also a criminal offence to allow your
dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place. If you are
found guilty your dog could be destroyed and you could face up to
six months in prison and or a fine of up to £5,000.
Training clubs in North Somerset offer courses under the Good
Citizen Dog Scheme. These will help you control your dog and test
your knowledge as a responsible dog owner. For more information on
dog training clubs visit the Kennel Club
website.
Remember do not leave your dog in your car during warm weather
as this could put its life in danger. We work closely with the
RSPCA and the
police to take
action when a dog is in immediate distress.
