Asbestos is a very serious potential hazard which must
be carefully managed.
We are the duty holder in relation to asbestos management
of its premises. The responsibilities on the Council in this
duty are discharged through the Property and Asset Management
Service, Schools (not Trust or Foundation) and other service areas
where budgets are delegated for management of premises.
The Property and Asset Management Service has
recently entered into a long term contract with
OHS Limited to
provide asbestos management services across it’s estate. They are
currently undertaking a complete re-survey of the Council’s
estate at present and will also provide asbestos management plans
for each site or premises, provide Type ‘3’ surveys for works,
undertake regular reviews of asbestos management plans and regular
awareness training also.
We have revised
the Asbestos Management Policy and
produced an
Asbestos Management Plan which
outlines how the Council will manage asbestos across it’s
estate. It is expected that all employees of the Council make
themselves aware of the contents of both documents.
If you have any queries about asbestos or
intend to commission work you must contact the
Property Governance Team for advice immediately.
We will undertake all surveys necessary
whether Type 2 or 3 and will manage all asbestos removal where
required. Premises Managers or Schools are not permitted to manage
asbestos removal given the risks involved and requirements for
trained and competent persons to manage such works.
