In March 2006, We underwent the Joint Area Review
(JAR) and associated inspections of services for Children and Young
People. The inspection covered all services provided by a range of
statutory agencies.
Across the range of services provided in social care, education,
health and youth services, the inspectors concluded that all were
found to be good or better.
We were then placed as one of the best areas
nationally in terms of the support provided to children and young
people and the outcomes they achieve, which set against a backdrop
of low levels of central government funding for all partners, is
even more remarkable.

the JAR Inspection Report or you can

the Full JAR Inspection Report.
The inspection report contained only a small number of
recommendations, however the local partners have prepared
a JAR action plan to enable services to
continue to improve. The action plans for the JAR and related
enhanced youth inspection (EYI) were approved at the
Council Executive on 19th December 2006, together with the
EYI action plan.
The enhanced youth inspection is closely linked
to the JAR and describes the quality and effectiveness of the
youth service in the area.
