Student funding FAQs

How much are students entitled to receive?

Students following a course for the first time may be eligible for assistance with fees and a small maintenance grant if they come from lower income families. For further information visit www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

My parents are divorced / separated - who fills in my financial form?

Regulations dictate that the level of support is based on household income. That is the income of the parent that the student lives with plus income of a step-parent or co-habiting partner of the parent. Therefore the parent you live with should fill in the form.

I have two children at university - how does this affect my contribution?

Household contributions are calculated in the same way as if only one child were in attendance but with money off for each additional student. Any household contribution is then split - normally equally - between the students.

I have a disability - what assistance is available?

Students with recognised disabilities may be granted financial assistance to cover any additional cost they incur because they are attending college. For further information visit www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance
