There are more than 4000 Advanced Skills Teachers
(ASTs) in schools across England.
We have 24 ASTs within North Somerset which
could increase if schools decide to recruit ASTs from their own
budgets.
Being an AST gives teachers who are excellent at teaching an
opportunity to further their career by working with other teachers
in a broader environment than their own school.
We have identified a range of key subjects, aspects and priorities
for schools which indicate the types of expertise needed.
If you can identify your excellent practice in one or more of
these areas you may decide apply to become an AST.
AST posts will be advertised in your school when they become
available.
Schools can recruit ASTs as new members of staff and you should
look out for these opportunities in the national educational press
and other sources.

Practices document.
