Term dates

Here are the term and holiday dates for 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10 for schools across North Somerset.

The school year is based on a calendar of 195 days with five days used for staff training also known as In Service Days.

This means schools will be open for the legal minimum of 190 days or 380 sessions.

It will be necessary for parents and other interested parties to contact individual schools direct for confirmation of the five dates when they will be closed to pupils.

Academic year 2007/08

Following consultation, the official start and finish dates for the 2007/08 school year in North Somerset are as follows:

  • Term 1 - Monday 3 September 2007 until Friday 19 October 2007
  • Term 2 - Tuesday 30 October 2007 until Wednesday 19 December 2007
  • Term 3 - Thursday 3 January 2008 until Friday 15 February 2008
  • Term 4 - Monday 25 February 2008 until Friday 4 April 2008*
  • Term 5 - Monday 21 April 2008 until Friday 23 May 2008
  • Term 6 - Monday 2 June 2008 until Friday 25 July 2008

*The Easter bank holidays will form a long weekend within Term 4 and not part of the subsequent two-week holiday.

Schools will also be closed for the following public holidays:

  • Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day - 25 and 26 December 2007 and 1 January 2008
  • Good Friday, Easter Monday 21, 24 March 2008
    (Schools are also closed on Tuesday 25 March 2008)
  • May Day Bank Holiday - 5 May 2008
  • Spring Bank Holiday - 26 May 2008
  • August Bank Holiday - 25 August 2008

Academic year 2008/09

Following consultation, the official start and finish dates for the 2008/09 school year in North Somerset are as follows:

  • Term 1 - Wednesday 3 September to Friday 24 October 2008
  • Term 2 - Wednesday 5 November to Friday 19 December 2008
  • Term 3 - Monday 5 January to Friday 13 February 2009
  • Term 4 - Monday 23 February to Friday 3 April 2009
  • Term 5 - Monday 20 April to Friday 22 May 2009
  • Term 6 - Monday 1 June to Friday 24 July 2009

Schools will also be closed for the following public holidays:

  • Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day - 25 and 26 December 2008 and 1 January 2009
  • Good Friday and Easter Monday - 10 and 13 April 2009
  • May Day Bank Holiday - 4 May 2009
  • Spring Bank Holiday - 25 May 2009
  • August Bank Holiday - 31 August 2009

Academic Year 2009/2010

The term and holiday dates for the 2009 - 2010 school year have been finalised following consultations that took place in January 2008.

The agreed term and holiday dates for the 2009 - 2010 school year are as follows:

  • Term 1 - Thursday 3 September 2009 to Friday 23 October 2009
  • Term 2 - Monday 2 November 2009 to Friday 18 December 2009
  • Term 3 - Monday 4 January 2010 to Friday 12 February 2010
  • Term 4 - Monday 22 February 2010 to Thursday 1 April 2010
  • Term 5 - Monday 19 April 2010 to Friday 28 May 2010
  • Term 6 - Monday 7 June 2010 to Friday 23 July 2010

Schools will also be closed for the following public holidays:

  • 25 December 2009 - Christmas Day
  • 28 December 2009 - in Lieu of Boxing Day
  • 1 January 2010 - New Years Day
  • 2 April 2010 - Good Friday
  • 5 April 2010 - Easter Monday
  • 3 May 2010 - May Day Bank Holiday
  • 31 May 2010 - Spring Bank Holiday
  • 30 August 2010 - August Bank Holiday

5 days are also available for professional training closures during term time. These days are set by the Headteacher and Governors of each school.
