Biodiversity is the wealth of wildlife in the world
around us.
It refers to the number and different types of plants and
animals found in an environment from wildflowers and trees to
insects, mammals and birds.
These environments include natural habitats such as woodlands,
wetlands and meadows as well as man made and managed places
such as plantations, fields, canals and even wasteland.
If your school decides to concentrate on biodiversity as an
Eco-Schools theme, you could consider taking part in one of the
following projects:
- Watching and recording biodiversity in your school grounds and
back gardens through the local
Bird
Watch programme
- Planning and creating a wildlife-friendly garden with the help
of advice from
the
RSPB
- Join in with organised activities such as
National Insect
Week
The following organisations might also be able to help with
this theme:
We also work toward enhancing the diversity of wildlife and
plant species across North Somerset through our
Action for Nature - North Somerset Biodiversity
Action Plan 2005.
