We aim to support schools in North Somerset
who take part in the Eco-Schools
Programme.
The Eco-Schools Programme is
an international scheme run by
the Foundation for
Environmental Education (FEE) and administered in England
by the environmental
charity ENCAMS.
The scheme aims to involve pupils, staff, parents,
governors and the local community in making schools more
sustainable and to reduce their environmental impacts.
The programme is also compatible with other schemes such as the
National Healthy Schools
Programme.
The programme is centred around the following
nine themes with schools concentrating on those most relevant
to them:
Local schools can join
the Eco-Schools
Programme through its website and find out
which ones have already signed up using
its School
Search facility.
Each school sets its own targets and timescales to
achieve its aims with the emphasis on engaging pupils to make
sure the whole school has a sense of ownership and
responsibility over the work.
Once a target has been achieved schools are given
one of the following awards to recognise their achievements:
-
Bronze
award - A self-assessed award which leads to a
certificate
-
Silver
award - A self-assessed award which leads to a
certificate
-
Green
Flag - Externally assessed leading to a
certificate and a flag
Your school may be able to receive financial help with the
Eco-Schools Programme and its environmental work with
further information available on our
grants

We would like to hear about any local schools and their progress
in participating in the Eco-Schools
