North Somerset Centre for Young Musicians (NSCYM) runs
several senior ensembles.
All the senior ensembles meet in Clevedon on a Saturday morning
from 9.00am to 12:30pm, at Clevedon Community School, Valley Road.
You can find the venue using our Interactive map.
Progression from the junior to senior ensembles is based on
attainment and ability rather than age. Each ensemble gives at
least two performances each year although many of the senior groups
perform more regularly.
There are several senior ensembles:
North Somerset Sinfonia - A full symphony
orchestra for players of Grades 5-8, playing well known symphonic
repertoire.
Swing Band - This swing band for flutes,
clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, bass guitar and
drums, focuses on commercial music and pieces from film
soundtracks.
Strings and Wind Sectionals - For
players from the Sinfonia.
Musical Explorations - For players from
Swing Band and the percussion section of the Sinfonia.
Concert Band - A symphonic wind band for
players of Grades 5-8. This band plays the traditional wind
band repertoire to a high standard, and includes all of the wind
and percussion players from the Sinfonia and Swing Band.
Vivace - This string orchestra for players
of Grades 5 and above, consists mainly of the musicians from the
North Somerset Sinfonia and provides an opportunity for them to
focus on orchestral repertoire written solely for strings.
