Government e-consultations

The Department for Education (DfE) has an e-consultation website where governors can access all live and archived consultations, or view the results of previous consultations.

Below is a list of current consultations that may be of particular interest to governors.  They are listed in date order.

Safeguarding Children: Proposed Changes to Child Performance Legislation

This consultation sets out proposals to update and simplify the legislation on the involvement of children of compulsory school age in a range of performance activities. The licensing arrangements sit alongside the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and accompanying guidance which includes specific provisions for the protection of children who take part in all television and radio programmes. This is a joint consultation between the Department of Education and the Welsh Government. The intention is that reforms to the child performance legislation should be consistent across England and Wales.

The consultation ends on 3 August 2012.

Protection of Biometric Information of Children in Schools

The purpose of this consultation is to gather views on a Department for Education draft advice document intended to explain the legal duties schools and colleges have if they use automated biometric recognition systems.

The consultation ends on 3 August 2012.

Careers Guidance in Schools & Sixth Form Colleges

From this September, the Education Act 2011 will place schools under a duty to secure access to independent and impartial careers guidance for pupils in years 9-11. The purpose of this consultation is to gather views on whether the new duty should be extended down to pupils in year 8 and upwards to young people up to the age of 18 studying in schools, sixth form colleges and further education institutions. Subject to this consultation and to the parliamentary process, the Department for Education is aiming to amend the age range by regulations from September 2013.

The consultation ends on 1 August 2012.
