E-Safety for Schools

Powerful new communications technologies including the internet, PDAs and mobile phones offer significant benefits to education, at the same time they open up some serious potential dangers for children and young persons.

The ICT Strategy team have produced the following frequently asked questions (FAQs) in consultation with the South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL) and the Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

This is straight forward guidance for headteachers on the subject of e-safety within their school.

Although the ultimate responsibility for ensuring the safety of children in schools lies with the headteacher, all members of staff and governors need to be aware of the issues and strategies for minimising risk.

Each question is answered simply and directly, but links to other sources of information are included. The definitive resource is the Becta publication: e-Safety: developing whole-school policies to support effective practice. Other resources include websites which outline the problems and solutions for staff, parents and pupils.
