About our service
Objective of the
Service:
To facilitate the
provision of sufficient and appropriate school sites, to oversee
the condition, suitability and sufficiency of all school, assisting
in drawing up of a strategic plan for North Somerset schools and
operating through the priorities of the Asset Management
Plan.
Functions of the service:
Development and review of the Asset Management Plan
covering all Education land and building stock in North
Somerset.
Planning, identifying funding sources for and
implementation of the education capital and condition
programme.
Supporting schools in developing their confidence in
taking on an acceptable level of premises development and
maintenance.
What we do:
Preparation of the Asset Management Plan (Condition,
Suitability and Sufficiency).
Identifying priorities for the Education Capital Programme
and appropriate funding sources.
Management of the annual Education Capital Programme,
including briefing, budget management and school liaison. Capital
programme works may typically include condition, basic need and
improvements.
Development of a range of premises-related policies and
strategies including disabled access, security, fire safety and
asbestos.
Working with Diocesan Authorities and Voluntary Aided
schools in premises matters.
Supporting schools in their own asset management including
premises budget, planning and prioritisation and effective use of
Seed Challenge and Devolved capital funding.
Responding to general site enquiries e.g. boundary
ownerships, leases to and from others.
Procure the services needed to fulfil the LA's
responsibilities to schools.
Manage the Asset Management Advisory Group.
Keep an up-to-date record of all premises issues on an
Evolut1on database.

Buildings:
We are responsible for working with our schools to ensure
that the learning environment for children is of the highest
standard possible, under current financial constraints and
historical under-investment. As more premises money goes directly
to schools to tackle jointly identified priorities, whether arising
from Condition, Suitability and Sufficiency Surveys, or from
specific surveys into areas of concern.
The plans below are available for download. They are in
PDF format. The Statement of Priorities is for the period 2004/06
and has recently been approved by the DfES in May 2004.
