'This is a good school. The headteacher, ably supported
by staff and the governing body, has successfully driven
improvement in provision and outcomes for pupils. Achievement is
good.' This is just one of the positive comments from the latest
Ofsted report for Herons' Moor Community Primary School in
Weston-super-Mare.
The report highlighted numerous outstanding aspects of the
school including the way the children are looked after; how the
children remain healthy; and the care, guidance and support the
school offers.
Inspectors found that 'where lessons are most successful,
teachers skilfully plan for pupils of all abilities so that they
make good progress from their own starting points. These lessons
have good pace and pupils demonstrate effective teamwork and
interpersonal skills in order to learn with, and from, each
other.'
They also highlight the outstanding extent to which pupils adopt
healthy lifestyles '(this) is clearly demonstrated in the numbers
of pupils attending additional sporting activities and the very
healthy choices they make for their lunch. This has been recognised
in the Healthy School award.'
The report also says that pupils have an excellent understanding
of how to keep safe in school and in the wider world.
Parents and carers of the pupils were very supportive of the
school, inspectors found, with one parent commenting: "Herons' Moor
is an excellent school which works with me to support my
children."
Further highlights from the report include:
Pupils got on remarkably well with each other, both in lessons
and around the school
Teachers have positive relationships with pupils and manage
their behaviour successfully
The headteacher, senior leadership team and governing body are
totally focused on driving school improvement.
The inspectors note two areas where the school can improve
further: improve the monitoring of pupils’ progress to give more
detailed information; and improve teaching so that all lessons are
more consistently good or better by improving the consistency of
teachers’ marking and ensuring that teachers’ planning consistently
meets the needs of, and challenges all pupils, especially the more
able.
Headteacher, Julie Fox said: "This report reflects the hard work
and commitment that the staff, governors and parents have put in to
make Herons' Moor the great school that it is. I am very proud that
the inspectors highlighted how caring, confident and considerate
the pupils at Herons’ Moor are."
Herons' Moor Community Primary School, in Highlands Lane,
Locking Castle, Weston, has 467 pupils on its roll, and was last
inspected by Ofsted in May 2009.
