Local young musicians, street dancers and performers
will be strutting their stuff in Weston-super-Mare this
weekend.
And, as part of the New Tricks youth arts festival, young people
are invited to take part in free art-based workshops, including
steel drumming, street dancing, circus skills, graffiti, recycled
fashion design and photography.
The festival is being held in the Italian Gardens and Barcode
Youth Café in Weston town centre area from 1 to 5 pm on Saturday 4
July.
Our library service will showcase a Manga drawing workshop (the
popular cartoon characters with big eyes portrayed in Japanese
comics) and promote their services available to young people. Other
attractions will include henna tattoos and face painting. 'No
Worries!' North Somerset's district-wide confidential teenage
health service and the children and young people's information
service will also display information relevant to young people.
Event organisers Gabby and Chris (young people from the Weston
South Youth Project) and local youth workers are looking forward
seeing young people getting involved and enjoying art in its
various formats.
All young people aged 13 - 19 are welcome to take part as much
or as little as they want.
The graffiti workshops are being supported by the Find Your
Talent North Somerset pathfinder.
North Somerset is one of ten national Find Your Talent
pathfinders. North Somerset Council has been awarded £1.6m funding
to develop and commission a variety of cultural activity between
September 2008 and July 2011.
