The Government-funded One to One Tuition programme has
been officially launched. This programme aims to help children who
need it, gain more confidence and understanding in
English and maths.
A recent survey (part of the ‘Making Good Progress’ pilot
evaluation) found that 86 per cent of headteachers believe
one-to-one tuition has contributed to increased rates of
progression in their school.
As a result of the pilot’s success, the Government has committed
to providing tuition in English and maths to 300,000 children
respectively by October 2010. This programme will be available for
key stage 2, 3 and 4 pupils.
The One to One Tuition Programme is designed to help the
children who need it most. The tutor will work with the pupil’s
teacher to identify the child’s academic barriers in English and
maths then provide ten hours of individualised tuition.
We are actively involved in this government initiative. One to
One Tuition has already been trialed in 18 Primary schools during
Spring and Summer 2009 with fantastic results. For the academic
year 2009 / 10 we have allocated places to all Primary and
Secondary Schools across the authority.
