What is a Healthy School?
A Healthy School promotes physical and emotional health
providing accessible and relevant information and equipping pupils
and staff with the skills and attitudes to make informed decisions
about their health. A Healthy School is successful in helping
pupils to do their best and build on their achievements; it is
committed to ongoing improvement and development.
In a Healthy School, the importance of investing in health to
assist in the process of raising children and young people's
achievement levels and improving standards is well understood and
the need to provide a physical and social environment conducive to
work and learning is recognised.
A Healthy School involves the whole school community, parents,
governors, staff and pupils, in improving children's health and
happiness and helping them to get the most out of life.
Healthy Schools in North Somerset
As of April 1st 2011, the focus of Healthy Schools has shifted
from a national programme and has become more local. In North
Somerset we are continuing to support schools involved in the
Healthy Schools Plus Programme and will be developing new ways of
meeting the needs of schools and pupils, in line with the Education
and Public Health white papers.
We will be sending communications to schools about developments
in the programme , but if you have any inquiries or want more
information, please contact Shaun Cheesman, Healthy Schools
